Another full home/landscape remodel allows us to be working alongside renowned architect Rich Bokal of Bokal and Sneed, and Interior Designer Christine Harris. This bright light of a home is located in the heart of downtown Del Mar. As crowds gather in town to get down the beach, this home sits in the perfect location tucked away behind white stucco walls and countless palm trees. It is a timeless beach home and will continue to be so as the team on deck works to give this little oasis a modern spin.

The angular walls of the house, the enclosing property walls, and the client’s desire for a side yard pool, make this a tricky project from a landscape perspective. All of this aside, working alongside Rich, Christine, and our laid back clients (and their dog!) makes this a fun challenge. This young family is looking forward to adding a small dipping pool, a lounge area, and an outdoor dining area with a BBQ and fireplace. As this space is on the smaller side, we will work with different elevations in the yard to allow room for each space to flow into one another.

Drawing inspiration from The Parker Palm Springs, Acre in Baja, and Australian Designer Mon Palmer, we’ve created an exterior vision alongside Christine (and our clients) to take this landscape to the next level. Tile and flagstone from Australian label Eco Outdoor will give a laid back, washed out feeling throughout the space. The existing palms as well as some new, desert-tropical plants will add all different hues of green throughout the space, especially when planted against the existing white stucco walls. The reflecting blue from the pool will carry throughout the space and be the perfect place to cool off and take a dip after a long beach day. We want this space to be playful, liveable, and low maintenance for this active family. This yard will be a place where the kids and dog can splash around in the pool while the adults hangout and have a drink on the patio. For any occasion, day or night, we want to create a space that will foster laughs and love and silly jump contests into the pool. Things we all need lots more of these days! We’re super excited to bring it all together with this project. Stay tuned for progress photos!
