I'd Rather Be Here Now

Greetings friends! There’s been some change in the air. Fall is settling in. Winter is around the corner. The sun gets bright real early. It might be my best kept secret but the ocean is perfectly groomed this time of year. It’s crystal clear, still and clean and if you look real close you can see the green flash at sunset.

There’s always so much hustling and bustling and movement in our world but this year there is a profound sense of stillness. Whether we like it or not we are most likely stuck at home. It’s not quite as fun to plan a beautiful getaway trip when we just don’t know when it will happen. I think we’re all coming to realize that there’s no point in thinking about where we’d rather be...instead we’re starting to shape our reality into something we don’t need a vacation from. This time of stillness can be a gift. It can be a time to get into a mindful routine and start to pay attention to some of the things we’ve been sweeping under the rug for a while now.

It feels good if you can start to make a point to stay active, positive, focused, passionate, curious, connected, HERE now. It’s proven that your body chemistry changes when you spend time in nature. In these shorter days, it feels like a great success if you get a chance to see the sun for a few minutes and let it warm up your bones. If you don’t have a green space you love, get creative & keep it simple -- plant some herbs outside the kitchen. Pots are great. Organic soil is best. Put a chair out there and make a point to sit there for a few minutes a day and notice your surroundings. Maybe some bees and butterflies will come by. Maybe you could take your next work call out there. WFH but WFOUTSIDE!

Be mindful. Eat warm, yummy food. Burn a nice smelling candle. Go outside and smell the California Coastal Sage baby! Nurture yourself and those around you. We want our daily routines to encompass all of this. To come back to our senses and pay attention to these small reminders that where we are now is exactly where we’re supposed to be.
