Project OvervieW
Jeune et Jolie is a Michelin-rated, classically French restaurant in Carlsbad, representing restaurateur John Resnick's "sophomore attempt" and one of four collaborations with Falling Waters Landscape. Its design, envisioned as the more feminine - “baby sister” - counterpart to Campfire, aims to create a light, airy, and pretty atmosphere, subtly incorporating elements suggestive of a salty marine environment and global French coastal influences like the Ivory Coast. The culinary focus is primarily a prefix menu with options for wine tastings, and the restaurant also offers a beautiful brunch. Falling Waters Landscape's role was to meticulously select materials and plant life to serve as a supporting element, enhancing the overall ambiance and providing subtle sensory cues for a truly cool experience that complements the food and architecture.
Project Highlights
FWL worked on the original design and installation of J&J. Then Covid hit not too long after. The City granted the team the permission to create outdoor seating. Once again we were brought in to site and place 2 large Olive trees - meant to be temporary. As Covid evolved, outdoor dining became not only mandatory but essential to the survival of so many restaurants. J&J was able to serve so many more guests with this seating arrangement. With the permission from the City, John and the team at B&W designed an outdoor seating area and FWL added pottery and plants.
Team
In these collaborative restaurant ventures, Falling Waters Landscape works alongside talented partners to bring restaurant visions to life. For Jeune et Jolie, key collaborators included restaurateur John Resnick and the highly accomplished design firm Bells and Whistles. We value working with such humble, approachable, and collaborative professionals, as their collective expertise elevates the entire project.
