Project OvervieW
Campfire, restaurateur John Resnick's flagship restaurant in Carlsbad, is conceptualized as a wood-fired, classically rustic establishment. Its design embraces a camp-like atmosphere, fostering a communal environment reminiscent of a fun adults' camp, subtly integrating fire-influenced elements throughout, even into its drinks.
Our team leaned in to Campfire’s masculine aesthetic, creating a rugged, rustic, and robust look through design choices that include elements like leather, rope, and canvas, evoking a Boy Scout-like appeal. Our goal was to compliment the immersive environment, where sensory cues are present but not overwhelming. Pictured below, Ryan’s daughter enjoying Camp’s signature “Smores”
Project Highlights
With no actual planted spaces, Campfire uses potted plants in every available nook and cranny to green up the weather-worn timbers. We used a combination of spikey ones, pointy ones, not-so-thirsty ones and a few pretty ones to help define spaces. Terra cotta, glazed ceramic, a bit of this and that. The eclectic mix is meant to be fun, not fussy and easy for the staff to maintain.
Team
In these collaborative restaurant ventures, Falling Waters Landscape works alongside talented partners to bring restaurant visions to life. For Campfire, key collaborators included restaurateur John Resnick and the highly accomplished design firm Bells and Whistles. We value working with such humble, approachable, and collaborative professionals, as their collective expertise elevates the entire project.
