YOU CAN DO IT TOO (PART 2) || How homeowners can implement sustainable practices in their own backyard
This is part two of the “You Can Do It Too” blog; in the first part we discussed how implementing pervious materials and planting California natives can aid in created a healthier environment. For this chapter we will discuss how rainwater harvesting and edible gardens can support a sustainable lifestyle as well.
FUNCTIONALITY OF SCALE || Why one space feels more comfortable than another
One of the most important design techniques that we use in each of our projects is the power of scale. By understanding that scale in patterns, heights, and densities can play a vital role in making a space feel comfortable, we are able to successfully design for any type of project.
DESIGN DISTRICT || Solana Beach, California
We love to take inspiration from where we live, and Solana Beach is the perfect creative tap that never stops running. Not only is the style influential, but the people we constantly meet bring new ideas and new ways of thinking to our business.
ORCHIDS & ONIONS || What makes San Diego one of the best places to live
Every year the San Diego Architectural Foundation puts on a fundraising and educational event to bring awareness to the outstanding architecture, planning, and urban design that makes San Diego one of the best places to live. This program engages the community by promoting an interaction between the citizens and their built environment. Read on to see the Landscape Architecture projects that got recognized this year!
TO SEE IS TO REMEMBER || Using the senses to make a landscape authentic
Would you rather, not have your sense of smell for the rest of your life or not be able to see?..
Well then would you rather not have your sight for the rest of your life or not be able to taste?..
Unless you are a foodie like me, most people value sight above all other senses. It is a security net, a memory receiver, and the main way that we absorb the world around us. The eye’s reception dominates our sensory experience. Visuals control our feelings and moods. We can feel energetic and playful in a crowd full of lights and people or feel peaceful and blissful looking at the waves crash against the shore.
JUMPING THROUGH HOOPS & ROOTS || Rimini, Del Mar
When you drive through the winding roads of Del Mar, California, one house after another blows you away. Being Landscape Designers in this area, we have the challenge of continuing this theme by making a distinctive design that stands out and makes a point without having a blaring sign in front saying, “look at me.” In our recent project completed in Fall 2017, you will discover that by highlighting the natural curves of the landscape and reiterating the style of the architecture throughout the yard, we were able to subtly show off our residences’ home.
YOU CAN DO IT TOO (PART 1) || How homeowners can implement sustainable practices in their own backyards
If our mindset is that someone else will fix it, then no progress will ever be made. Small adjustments to the way we live and build can make a huge impact on our world. And these are some options of how to do it…
ITERATE, DON'T ORIGINATE || How our projects survive this complex world
Well, we like to call ourselves inventors, creators of an aesthetic or of an atmosphere. Each of these different projects that we propose comes from an idea. And like James Clear proposes, all of our ideas come from a system of proven ideas that have tested time and made it through the other side. We are responsible for the stewardship of our environment, but the unique perspective about our firm is that we also get to connect the user directly with their environment.
