Spring Planting = Summer HARVEST

Hello friends!  We finally had a chance to shoot our amazing Olivenhain Plot project in all its summer glory. We got there early in the morning (the coffee was not just a prop) before the sun became too bright, and it was amazing to feel such a stillness in the garden. As soon as you walk down the driveway and see this garden, you can’t help but feel the sense of awe and wonder you had as a kid.  Needless to say, the morning was beautiful and promised a warm July day.

About the design -

Designing on a steeped front yard like this one was an exciting challenge for our design team.  The entry gate and elongated timber steps make the journey to the front door more exciting than walking down the concrete driveway. The materials selected by our team mimic the natural landscape: wood, DG, mulch, Mexican beach buff cobblestones, and a selective plant palette of natives and low water varieties.

The garden itself is enclosed around a large grill-top table. The string lights and dense layers of veggies make it feel like a tucked away oasis. It’s a place to eat, drink, hangout, and watch things grow. When we got there, our client Dave was collecting tomatoes for a greek salad for that night. He gave us cucumbers, eggplant, all sorts of herbs, and the juiciest, brightest red tomatoes still warm from the sun. Safe to say this was our favorite shoot to date, as we left highly caffeinated from the “prop” coffee and with baskets full of home grown vegetables.

We hope you’re feeling inspired by the natural beauty of this new project. We can’t wait to create more gardens like this one!
