The Farm | Rancho Santa Fe

Here is a look at our initial concept design for this sweeping property nestled in the hills of Rancho Santa Fe. This lot is a blank slate at the moment, so there are many details that go into envisioning what will become of this home. Our clients, a young local family, are looking to create what will be their forever home,  an oasis to retreat from the daily hustle and bustle.

A large factor that went into creating this concept is…you guessed it…water. San Diego is not known to have much rain, and trying to keep grounds of this size lush and green year round would be unsustainable and expensive. In this concept, we’ve added details such as a rainwater catchment system, greywater irrigation system, and water friendly native plants that actually thrive on low water. The fruit tree orchard of citrus, avocado, and olive trees  will be watered solely from grey water. The native grass meadow will serve as a place for birds, bees, and butterflies to play and recharge.

We are lucky to live in a place where most of our time can be spent outdoors. Including an outdoor cooking and living area in a design is so important, because when we can spend time outdoors cooking, sitting by the fire with friends, and taking in some sun, our bodies, minds, and hearts become more full.

We are excited to see how this project evolves. Come along for the ride and watch as we take this bare lot from a concept in our heads, to many sketches and sheets of paper, to files on the computer, and then finally to break ground and build.
