PROJECT HIGHLIGHT | Del Sur Residence

From the beginning we had a good feeling about this project. Ever since the first meeting, our clients at the Del Sur project were nothing but a dream. The type of residence had a different character than our usual projects. This home was located in a gated 55 and up community, ideal right… no kids! We thought that the exclusivity of a neighborhood like this would not become too much trouble; however, a few difficulties did arise that we had to account for. The home had a shared driveway so in order to respect the neighbors accessibility to their front door, we had to park on the main street. This led to having to bring materials and equipment by hand down the walk. A lot of time was lost in this back and forth that we did not account for.

The plot of land we had to work with was smaller than usual and it had houses butting up against their yard on all three sides. Ideally they wanted to create their own oasis hidden from their neighbors. Okay so an easy solution would be to grow 10’ screening hedges around the entirety of their project, right? Seems easy enough. But as all of you could imagine, with a community like this, a dominating feature like that would be impossible to do. So even though it seemed like we were designing for one family, we actually had to take into account the wants and needs of the surrounding neighbors and be more creative with our design solutions.

Problems like these arise in every project, as much as we try to look forward and prepare for expected difficulties, it is impossible to predict every bump in the road. The beacon light that kept us loving this project was our amazing clients. They not only understood the design process, but they were patient throughout the construction. They put trust in our process and understood that the outcome will be beautiful even though the journey was unstable. They were ideal and we hope that this interaction will lead to a lasting relationship after we pack up and leave. Here are some first glance photos of the project after our last run through. Professional photos will be on the website shortly.
